A down pillow is one of the types of pillow used by many people nowadays. Down pillows are filled with goose down. If your choice turns out to be a cotton filled pillow you should replace it when needed rather than washing it. Because over time cotton pillows will become very dense because of the body weight that is constantly put on them. And remember cotton pillows are very affordable so replacing them when needed is worth the cost to avoid health problems that can be directly related to breathing in mold.
For side sleepers, a thicker, firmer pillow would be the most likely candidate to enhance your evening slumber. Pillows such a contoured memory foam pillow or a latex foam pillow are designed to provide the support between the bed and the head allowing a side sleeper to keep their neck and spine aligned. A softer pillow, for a side sleeper, would cause the head to slump and put strain on the neck.
